New Tires and fork seals

16-Feb-05

Got a new set of tires..boy what a difference!!! Last weekend I took a motorcycle saftey class and earned my endorsement. The class was great, I recommend it to everyone of course!!!

So now I am riding again and the weather here is great of course, yesterday was a stellar day..My 14th anniversary the weather was great and the bikewas running great.

I am still thinking of getting the thing properly tuned on a dyno. Championship Cycles, a local independent shop, said they can get it all done for about $240. Seems a little steep but of course the thing could be all out of whackthe dyno and the propersyncrometers, could be a little better thenmy very advanced, tune the idle down then adjust the air jets to feed the right fuel to keep the idlecircuit working on its own..then blip the throttle to see if it took, method, has retrieved some good effects but I am sure it is probably all screwed up.

Rockin' and a Rollin'

The fuel-link never arrived so I used the wrong part they send and cut the old one in half, added a piece of fuel injection line and some hose clamps...whaaa laaa I am on the road again!!!

It took a few runs to balance out the carbs, along with tightening the air connector hoses. I have been running the bike for about a week on the new set up and it seems to be settling in nicely. I painted the seat gloss black with some vinyl paint, that came out really nice. Just have the tank to do!!!!

The bike is running great no decel popping!!!

well.....

The motorcycle gods weren't with me this time...we ordered the wrong fuel linkpipe. Oh well. I am going to have them overnight the right one today for friday.

However I did re-jet the carbs and that task went smooth. The old jets desprately needed replacing as they were very corroded, I am surprised they worked like they did. Replacing the mainjets was very simple, I did a quick eyeball check and the mains didn't seem to be a great difference in size, although every one knows that size only matters when leaving a big black rubber strip downon the black top....

After drilling the vaccum vent out on the slides and reinstalling the new needles,I utilized a simple bench test (I moved them with my finger) the slides dropped at a very notice-able faster rate. I am hoping this will increas throttle response. Resulting in a most favorable vroom!!

One thing I did, and this should extend the rubber life on the slides was that I silicon sprayed each one carfully. This should protect the rubber and maintain its elasticity.

I didn't take pictures of the actual process as anyone who knows me, knows when I get focused into ajob, the last thing I am doing is stopping to take a picture, ecspecially when it is going well. Not only that, I was very upset that the wrong pipe came in and the rejetting lost some happy flavor,it was a bitter-sweet operation because I knew my work that night would be still sitting on the bench for a couple days.

got my stuff!!!

So here I am at work salivating for the time to ooze by. The guys at Rick case called in and said my part is in *crossing fingers* I hope it is the right one the way the parts look in the computer it was difficult to decifer the direction that the carbs were sitting....hopefully mysixth sence parts skills/ spidey senses are working...
